There is banter and humor just prepare for some heartbreak related to the crimes, perpetrated against secondary characters we meet on page. The mystery (someone is preying on the elderly) drives the plot but doesn't overwhelm the romance. There is some seriously dirty floor lovin', and Colin gets all hot and bossy.
This book is less angsty (Qay had far more baggage than either Nev or Collie) and sexier than the first. Colin is willing to seize the day with Nevin, even though he wants much more than sex. Nevin, all 5 foot 4 of him, is such a strong man, and so kind underneath the prickly surface. (And for Colin too, although he's loath to admit it.)Ĭollie and Nev are endearing, complex MCs despite being opposites, they fit together like lock and key. There is a deep undercurrent of affection between the men. Nevin's may be invisible, but they're no less real. He's fiercely attracted to Nevin, but he knows the score: it's just sex, baby.īoth Nevin and Colin carry scars. He doesn't do relationships, and he mostly keeps to himself. Nevin likes both men and women, so the world is his sexual oyster. He may say "fuck" a lot, but he cares about the community and those in need. Once an angry punk, tossed from foster home to foster home, Nevin is now one of the good guys. Nevin is a detective who investigates crimes against seniors and the disabled. It overlaps with Love Can't Conquer so we hear about Jeremy and Qay, and see Jeremy on page interacting with Nevin, but the focus is on Nevin and his love interest Colin. Love is Heartless is the second book in the Love Can't series but can be read as a standalone. The question is whether they have the heart to build something lasting. But sparks are short-lived, dampened by the advent of brutal crimes, and Colin and Nevin have seemingly little in common. But being a witness to a terrible crime-or two-was more than he bargained for.ĭespite their differences, Colin and Nevin discover that sparks fly when they’re together. Maybe it’s time to try something more exciting. Now he’s thinking maybe he won’t just go with the flow.
Colin does do relationships, but they never work out. Too supportive, perhaps, since his childhood illness has left his parents unwilling to admit he’s a strong, grown man.
